After not sleeping for days to watch the SN 15 launch live and Then seeing it land back without Exploding was to say the least worth it. It was a huge success for the starship team and proved that it is as capable for the HLS mission to the moon as it is to the mars mission and therefore clearing the doubts from it getting awarded the 3 Billion Dollar Contract by NASA (More on this later). But the mission wasn’t as smooth sailing as the team described it to be, first there was a bit orangey color in the engine flames when the rocket was landing, might be cause of the humidity I am not really sure on that one. The more daunting issue is the Fire after the landing, which if you have been watching the landings has become a staple of some sorts, and remember that SN 15 is 15 stories tall, that means any fire that’s even visible isn’t small, its length is greater than 3 meters / 12 feet so not a short one, it also might have damaged the raptor engines as the 3 of them were very close so it’s unlikely that all of them went unharmed and that’s a problem. The fire is most likely caused by the leak in The methane tanks.
As the starship is supposedly reusable and the current talks are being taken to fly the SN 15 again, with different engines and in no ways, I am taking shots at SpaceX’s success, quite on the contrary my respect is on an all time high and is tending towards infinity , while the fire was an error , it doesn’t take away from the 99.9% success of the Heat tiles design and the re landing procedure was an astounding win. And they’re taking lessons from each launch like , 3 Explosions and then 1 landing + explosion and then no explosion and a fire and so it’s a learning mission and we are now a step closer to Mars and even closer to getting back to the MOON!
